Blown Glass Smoke Series
Rene Culler creates individualized blown objects by combining flat fusing glass with molten furnace glass. Surfaces in the "smoke series" are sandblasted and waxed. This soft ethereal quality of the movement of color and line in the glass contrasts with traditional forms.
Smoke Vessels: Amber and Neo-lavender, 2007
Fused and blown glass, Italian-pastorelli method
Bowl: 12" x 10" x 10" one of a kind
A fused glass plate is picked up on the pastorelli plate and heated so that it can be rolled into a tube, then have its end closed off to manipulate and blow into a form. The neo-lavender color is light reactive: lavender in natural/halogen light and blue under fluorescent light.
